CAEP Accountability Measures
The Ohio State University’s Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) earned national accreditation by demonstrating excellence in the areas of content and pedagogy, clinical partnerships and practice, candidate recruitment, progression, and support, program impact, and quality assurance and continuous improvement from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). CAEP is a CHEA recognized national accreditor for educator preparation. Initial and advanced EPPs at The Ohio State University are accredited through 2026.
The measures featured in the data dashboards below are monitored annually by Ohio State program representatives and stakeholders. Ohio State is proud of its candidates’ consistently strong performance on these metrics, demonstrating our educator preparation programs’ reputation of excellence and the success of our graduates during the program and in the field. These measures also inform our continuous improvement efforts to ensure responsiveness to the needs of our students, our partners and the profession.
Completer Impact and Effectiveness
Ohio State educator preparation programs monitor multiple measures to determine the effectiveness of our completers’ instruction on P-12 student learning and development. The data dashboards contained below demonstrate recent Ohio State graduates successfully apply professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be effective teachers and positively impact their students.
The Ohio Teacher Education System (OTES) is the state-wide teacher evaluation system, and it is used to determine the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions of completers. Within the OTES metric, there is a student growth component factored into a teacher’s performance rating, serving as a gauge to also examine their impact on student learning. Additionally, Ohio P-12 students take Ohio State Tests (OSTs) in identified grade levels and subject areas throughout their educational experience. Student performance on OST assessments are used to calculate a teacher’s value-added rating. The two dashboards featured below provide data on completer impact and effectiveness.
Satisfaction of Employers and Stakeholder Involvement
Ohio State aims to develop educators who are prepared to effectively serve in a variety of P-12 school settings and work with diverse students and families. Through various structures, our educator preparation programs elicit feedback from partner district representatives and school leaders to gauge their level of satisfaction with completers’ preparation.
Employer and mentor satisfaction surveys are two measures used for both initial and advanced programs. Annual surveys gather feedback from targeted employers and provide an indication of their agreement with candidates’ effective preparation. The two dashboards featured below provide data on employer satisfaction and links to evidence demonstrating processes for stakeholder involvement.
Most Ohio State advanced program candidates are employees of districts where they intern and are hired into new roles in school administration and pupil services; therefore, mentor surveys provide an indication of employer perception of candidates’ preparation. The two dashboards featured below provide data on stakeholder feedback on Educational Administration programs. Data on other advanced programs will be provided in Fall 2024.
Candidate Competency at Program Completion
Ohio State educator preparation programs ensure candidates acquire sufficient competency in both content and pedagogical knowledge to be successful in their specialty areas by tracking performance in required courses and on identified assessments.
Initial programs monitor candidates’ ability to pass state licensure tests required for their teaching fields, grades in required courses including a minimum grade point average, and performance on several unit-wide and program key assessments as completion requirements. The two dashboards below provide unit-wide data on two measures of candidate competency at completion and links to evidence containing information on other program-level requirements.
Other Measures for Completer Competency
-
Using Assessment Data to Drive Instruction (UADDI) Assessment: The UADDI assessment data for Measure #3 is not yet available due to the ongoing pilot and inter-rater reliability study. The EPP plans to conclude the pilot in Spring 2024, and data for the measure are expected to be shared publicly in Spring 2025.
Advanced programs monitor candidates’ ability to pass state licensure tests required for their license areas, grades in required courses including a minimum grade point average, and performance on several program key assessments as completion requirements. The dashboard below provide data on one measure of candidate competency at completion and links to evidence containing information on other program-level requirements.
Ability of Completers to be Hired
Ohio State tracks two measures to determine our completers' ability to be hired into positions in which they were prepared: the employment and retention rates in corresponding education jobs in P-12 schools and licensure rates in Ohio.
The Ohio licensure rate captures the percentage of a cohort that applies for an equivalent Ohio educator license through the State Board of Education (formerly Ohio Department of Education). The employment and retention of licensed individuals working in Ohio public schools in aligned roles are also examined to determine the percentage of completers who serve and stay in the field. The two dashboards featured below provide data on completers ability to be hired.
