Endorsements
An endorsement from The Ohio State University is a supplemental credential that can be added to your existing Ohio teaching license and increase your marketability as an educator. It gives you more flexibility to teach additional subjects and/or grade levels than a standard teaching license.
The Bilingual Endorsement trains Ohio educators who hold a standard Ohio teaching certificate or license to work with emergent bilingual students in grades PK-12.
Ohio State’s Computer/Technology Endorsement develops the skills of licensed educators who want to develop their capacity using technology to improve student learning and lead other teachers. This fully online, four-course program can be completed in one year taking classes part time.
Teachers who are already licensed in Ohio in two subject areas, grades 4-9, can expand to all subject areas in grades 4-6 only. This endorsement can only be added to the 4-9 middle childhood license.
The reading endorsement is for teachers who want to specialize in reading instruction. This professional development program uses graduate-level courses to train teachers to be "highly qualified" educators of reading for grades K-12.
Teachers who already hold a K-12 intervention specialist or K-5 early childhood teaching license can apply for admission to this endorsement program. Upon completion of this program, students will be endorsed to teach children with special needs in pre-kindergarten settings.
Recognized by the Ohio Department of Education, the Teacher Leader Endorsement from Ohio State fulfills one of the requirements to obtain the Lead Professional Educator License, the highest licensing credential a teacher can achieve in the state. This endorsement is tailored to meet the needs of a working professional who aspires to be a leader in his or her school and district while continuing as a classroom teacher.
Ohio’s communities and schools are dynamic places where more than 90 languages are used every day. Developing classroom teachers and communities that foster academic learning, linguistic diversity, and English-language proficiency are some of the goals of Ohio State’s TESOL Endorsement program. Through this program, in-service Ohio teachers develop their understanding of language learning in content-area classrooms, as well as their ability to serve as language educators and advocates for multilingual students and families.
