Aina Appova
Biography
Aina Appova is an assistant professor of mathematics education at OSU-Marion. Appova received her PhD in mathematics education from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her master’s degree in mathematics from Central Michigan University. She is a fellow of the Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum (CSMC), sponsored by the National Science Foundation (Award No. ESI-0333879).
For the past 10 years, Appova has developed and taught mathematics content and methods courses for prospective PK-8 teachers. Her dissertation and research program is focused on the learning, professional development and continuum of PK-12 pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers. She also is the co-principle investigator of the recently co-piloted cross-site study that examines the work, knowledge and practices of mathematics teacher educators.
Appova has been invited to provide national training sessions for PK-12 mathematics teachers at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and her research work has been accepted and published in national and international journals and conferences, including the Teaching and Teacher Education Journal, American Educational Research Association (AERA), Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) and the International (and National) Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME).
